Thailand’s Constitutional Court Suspends PM Paetongtarn Over Controversial Call with Cambodian Senator Hun Sen At 1:22 PM on July 1, 2025, Thailand’s Constitutional Court unanimously accepted a petition filed by the Senate Speaker, seeking a ruling on whether Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s status as a minister has been terminated due to her alleged misconduct, as per Section 170 paragraph 3 and Section 82 of the Constitution. The petition arises from a leaked audio clip of a conversation between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen. The Court has ordered the respondent to submit a defense within 15 days, as stated in Section 54 of the Organic Act on Constitutional Court Procedures B.E. 2561 (2018). Regarding the request for suspension, the Court voted 7 to 2 in favor of temporarily suspending Paetongtarn from her duties as Prime Minister, citing reasonable doubt under Section 170 paragraph 3 and Section 82 paragraph 2 of the Constitution. The suspension is effective from July 1, 2025, and will remain until the Court delivers its final ruling.
